Your Halo 3 controller settings will let you customize how your crouch button / thumbstick works. The basic setup requires you to click and hold the left thumbstick down in order to crouch and stay crouched. But, you can change that in your controller settings.

Instead you can tell the controller to keep crouching after just one click – and without holding. Then you’ll have to click again to stand. A good choice if you plan to crouch a lot and sneak up on some fools.
