I know that there are a few Halo fans out there, and maybe a few of y’all are gonna read this post. Maybe a few of you have already heard…But I will let y’all know that, yes, bungie is in fact keeping a team going full bore on the legacy that is Halo. Despite the split from Microsoft, and a well deserved vacation for the dedicated team behind the beauty we call Halo 3, there might still be more magic to look forward to. In actuality it might be a while, but the spark is still there.
After avoiding press on this side of the pond, Bungie studio manager Harold Ryan reportedly told British-based Develop magazine that “We’re actively engaged with the senior staff here on a couple of new IPs right now, but the team that can generate cool Halo games is still running full-speed as well.”
After 10 years of the Halo franchise, Ryan sees that the minds behind such an empire seem eager to work on some new projects. With that in mind, it appears that some new IPs are to be first down the barrel, but as Ryan said in the interview “Both I and some of the more senior guys from the original Halo game have deep piles of game designs for the Halo universe that we are excited to build at some point,” he explained. “If the stars align and motivations are good, and the platforms are right, we’ll do them… We don’t have a shortage of people happy to make Halo games.”
But, unfortunately, right now it seems that the only Halo related projects on the horizon are are Ensemble Studios’ real-time strategy Xbox 360 game Halo Wars, and the ever mysterious Peter Jackson-produced project set in the game’s sci-fi universe. I can only imagine if bungie puts in the effort that went into Halo 3, that their next IP, whatever that may be, will be absolutely spectacular.
