I’ve fallen in love with the Mauler in Halo 3. It’s a great weapon to dual-wield with a medium or short range weapon like the Needler, SMG or other.
Why…?
So far, I’ve noticed that all the dudes near my experience level, tend to run right at you when trying to kill ya. Unless they’re sniping of course. Since I know there’s a very good chance some fool is going to bum-rush me, I’ll just needle the hell out of em until they get close and then… BLAM-O with the Mauler and they’re D-E-D. “Dead”
Even better… The damn Mauler is always laying around so I can grab it anytime I want. Seems like nobody wants to use it–which is fine by me. I’ll gladly pick it up.
Also, the dual-wielding 2 Maulers might be more powerful than the shotgun. No data to back that up, but they’ll do major damage from a short distance.

good thoughts, it takes time to switch before firing weapons now, so that gets annoying, ok at medium-close range as it seems to have nice power. i prefer a crabine flogging to the head though. just my thoughts.
Actually, I agree, but for a whole different reason - the mauler is special in it’s own right. As a close range shotgun-type weapon, it’s got it’s advantages. The main one being - it’s the fastest weapon to melee after shooting. Just carry one, get close, and shoot-melee. You’ll have executed the entire combo in less than half a second and your opponent will still be lying down wondering what the hell happened.

Nice! I never even noticed the melee speed of the Mauler — Or that there’s a noticeable difference between weapons - after firing. I’m gonna have to try your shoot-melee strategy ASAP!

the mauler is just a brute shotgun
The Mauler seems to have the characteristics as the shotgun. If you get a head shot at close range, it is a one hit kill. Though duel wielded, it seems to be more effective from a greater distance. I will have to check out that shoot-melee strategy. It sounds fun.
mauler is over powered to start things off no other duel weldable gun can kill you in 2 hits or 1 hit 1 shot
this doesnt mean i don’t use it cuz i do i use it paired with the plasma rifle for a amazing combo
Now, I’ll grab two maulers, crouch and wait for chumps to run by. Man, they get pissed when I kill ‘em with two Mauler shots to the chest. Good times.
You’re right, the mauler is amazing and it’s almost ALWAYS available considering people are too busy bum rushing the sniper rifle(panzys) and/or rocket launcher. I have to say that duel wielding the Mauler is alot more effective than using a shotgun. When most people use the shotgun, they get up close and get the one hit kill. You can do that with duel maulers, AND you can do it from ALOT better of a range than the shotgun. Maulers win over the shotgun in my opinion.
I havn’t just yet aquired the liking of the mauler, but last night i used the shot-melee combo a couple times and yes, it is very effective, but it doesn’t always work for me a lot of the time and i’m a melee lover. I alway get the shot off then melee but most of the time i get killed like that in a second while it hardly ever works for me.
some people are calling the shot, then melee the new n00b combo. anywho, its my fav. looks cool 2

i agree with hydroblitz. i dont enjoy people who cant use the BR for shit and parade around with maulers whenever they can

Don’t assume people “can’t use the BR” so they tote the Mauler. Ain’t got nuttin to do with skills… I just “like” it.
i agree with halobuds, i’m good with the BR, but u’d be an idiot to use a BR at close range. That’s why i carry around a mauler or shotty.
maulers are great, but they never beat shotguns, ever. duel wielding may be stronger but has no effect at all against a guy with a shotgun throwing grenades at you before u even get to him. never try shot beatdown against a shotgun because if yr close enough to do that, theyre close enough to one shot kill you. i consider the mauler as a substitute for when the shotgun isnt available.
I find it a good nub gun but cannot say that i have never used it >.< lol I prefer the Shotgun :) and Sniper combo :)
