I swear the melee is jacked up. There have been multiple times where I’ve clearly smacked some foolio upside his head, then he slaps me across the face and I drop dead like a sack of potatoes. What the hell is going on right? This ever happen to you?
After about 1 minute of research I discovered that the melee might be broke - and might not. There’s a wicked debate about melee attacks over in the bungie forum. Here’s a sample:
…It makes sense that Player A should win when he has landed 3 square headshots with a BR then melees at the same time as Player B, who sloppily lobbed a couple bruteshot nades so that the explosion hurt Player A, bringing them to the same health. The Halo Trilogy multiplayer has never been about “bigger gun wins”, but about “better player wins”… and that, my friends, is the definition of BALANCE.
Who’s right or wrong? Decide for yourself.

I have the same problem with melee and short range weapons such as the shotgun.
There have been multiple times when I have gone shotty to shotty against someone and have ended up dead. I don’t mean where someone shot me first, I mean when we have both shot seemingly at the same time. Obviously someone might have pulled the trigger by a tenth of a second quicker, but I know my shotgun went off. And if my shotgun went off and was pointed point blank at his or her belly….well, they should be dead too.
I totally agree that something needs to be done. I can go an entire night without winning a beat down. Last night was a perfect example. Full shields, BR’ed (is that a word) the guy twice in the face and then went for the beat down. Next thing I knew I was flying backwards over the center hill on Valhalla. It is very frustrating and I cannot wait for them to fix the problem. I am sure it has something to do with lag and where you place your hit, but I have tried it all with no success. If anyone has any tips or if they remember how they beat the poop out of me…send me a message and let me know what I am doing wrong.

The melee debate rages on… Other Beat Downers (word?) think it’s got much to do with the melee power of your weapon. ( Ha! I just said “power of your weapon”) Think Brute Shot vs. Pistol. So there’s that - And where you hit the other fool (face vs. belly) might be factors.
