A little while back, me and a few buds were playing a bit of social slayer. Now we all know about those overly-competitive types who like to dole out a bit of pre game banter but this particular team could be considered a little excessive at best…
Anyway, we were amused to hear that our opponents gameplan revolved entirely around their grade 2 general ‘owning u fools’. Now we still shudder a little when squaring off against a general but in all fairness, what kind of plan is pitting one man against 5 enemies? Naturally we slaughtered them, much too their horror but it left us wondering a little regarding Halo strategy.
A lot of teams lately seem to have developed an interesting idea in that they invite their highest level friend and rally around them in an almost mascot kind of way. Now Halo 3 is a game that strongly promotes one on one confrontation as any lone wolves veteran will attest and there are many experienced players out their who can singlehandedly tear apart several enemies at once, however, can one exceptional player swing the battle against a well trained team of average players? Our general lead opponents clearly testified ‘no’ but there have been several times where a single sniper or shotgun wielding enemy has carved through our carefully planned lines to decimate our team. Therefore we have to wonder, which is more valuable? Exceptional ‘lone wolves’ style skill, where each man hunts alone… or a developed team of friends, where each man places his priority on defending his companions?

Everyone has played the Uber team, the one that can do no wrong. A well put together team, with players that can mop up enemies that are wounded and a couple core players that make the other team play a little more cautiously will almost always be equalizing factors.
This can go both ways, a General is not a Match for a Team of Effective Killers, However, I have felt the wrath of an Uber General, that sniped the Holy Hell out of our Team, thus pulling the win by a landslide. We have a Monster General in our group, and he is always +15 With 20+ Kills, so he is definitely a huge reason that we win. He is also a team player though, and puts faith in us as his team Mates.
Having one good player on a team does not mean a lot unless you’re playing against a team with lack of team work… You know “that guy”… the guy that charges into the middle of the battle time and time again.. You put four of “that guy”‘S on one team and one good player on the opposing team could easily mop them up for sure.
But team work around an all star is a good tactic. Maybe the best. It’s always nice to have a obvious leader on the team.. a go-to guy. The guy that gets the final kill when the score is 49 - 49
The best team is a team of players put together who can dominate in lonewolves yet play superbly as a team by learning strategies and team shooting. If you ever play a team of great individuals who have extreme team practices you will know immediately because everytime you spawn three people will be shooting you and they will maintain all power weapons and there spawn times. A war is but many battles and those battles must be won by good players in halo so even if you have a good team with above average players when you face the truly great teams you will lose. However, it is extremely hard to find such cohesion between four lonewolve players but if done the effect will be devastating.
