You're right, I am thankful for the Army, the other armed forces here in the U.S. and all the men and women who serve so that I can play Halo whenever I want. Also, I should not have resorted to using an insult to get my point across. I'm sorry for doing that - It was wrong and uncalled for. (I've also removed it from the original comment.)

However, it's the one specific word in the your last sentence of your comment that says it all: "KIDS"

No, kids should not consider the Army. Adults, ok, but not kids.

I know you're not trying to be a jerk - You're just talking about this with some passion - which is exactly what I'm doing... This is what the comments are for, creating a respectful discussion even if we disagree with each other.

Wow...too bad I was not 'smart enough' to avoid the Army.

Say what you want about the Army marketing campaign but don't insult those of us who wear the uniform.

Don't want to join the Army...then don't...nobody forces you to enlist.

If the recruiters are not out there signing people up for the Army...and the number of people enlisting in the military will drop off. If it drops low enough the government will start drafting citizens again.

I think we would both agree that a draft is something neither one of us would like to see.

While the idea of the Army and it's Soldiers may be offensive to YOU, that does not change the fact that the nation needs a military, and recruiters need to promote and advertise military service to keep the Army filled with volunteers.

So save the maudlin crap about being 'frightened' of a ad campaign.

It almost goes without mentioning if you are 'frightened' of an ad campaign...the Army would not want you anyway.

Leave the recruiters alone, if you don't want to enlist, then don't...but don't try to deny recruiters the oppertunity to advertise the idea of serving one's country.

You should be thanking your lucky stars that there are 18 year old kids out there willing to serve, so the rest of you can stay home and play Halo whenever you want.

I am not trying to be a jerk Halobuds...I just hate these kinds of knee-jerk reactions I see to the military.

Is it such a bad thing to even ask kids to CONSIDER joining the military?

The U.S. Army Sniper School is sponsoring a tournament in the game of all games - my beloved Halo 3?

Pretty smart move for the Army's marketing department, but it's also frightening. I'm not digging the idea of the armed forces invading Xbox Live - which now has over 10 million users.

That's a lot of impressionable young kids who will be seeing advertising for the Army way before they're old enough to enlist.

Strangely, I'd be curious to find out how many HaloBuds* will join because of this tournament.

Hopefully, HaloBuds are so lazy they'll never get around to contacting the army - even if they wanted to.

I'm just saying - I like playing Halo 3 with all my HaloBuds and I'm guessing that if you join the Army, I won't see you on Xbox Live anymore.

That makes me sad.

*Everybody that plays Halo is a "HaloBud" - 'Cause that's the kind of guy I am.
