2 Ways You Can Exterminate The Scarabs in Halo 3

The Scarab

There’s only one way to kill the scarab in Halo 3 - destroy it’s Power Core. You can accomplish this task in two ways:

*NOTE: If you’ve already played through the campaign, you probably already know #1. However, #2 is not as well known (unless you’re a huge nerd) so you can skip down a bit.

1) Getting on the Scarab and destroying the Power Core up close and personal.

That means you’ve got to get on the Scarab, either by dropping on it from a tall structure or Hornet, or shooting the Scarabs legs with a Rocket Launcher or Missile Pod.

Targeting the legs with all your ammo will temporarily paralyze it. You’ve got to hit it a bunch of times. You’ll know it worked when the Scarab drops down low enough so you can jump on to the entrance of it’s belly:

Scarab Belly

You’ll have to move quickly to get underneath because it won’t stay down for long.

This strategy works best when playing co-op because of you can shoot the Scarab’s legs from a safe distance while your HaloBuds can distract it’s fire and stay close enough to jump on it.

When you finally get on the Scarab, you’ll have to look for the Power Core, but it’s not that easy. You’ll have a few small battles on the Scarab with multiple Grunts and Brutes. Here’s what the Power Core looks like:

Scarab Power Core

When you find the Power Core, melee it, shoot it, toss grenades or do whatever else you can think of to smash it.Now, run like hell, ’cause it’s gonna blow!

2) The other - easier - way to take down the Scarab is to shoot it with a tank or Hornet from a safe distance.

(This might even work with the Missile Pod or a very accurate Rocket Launcher firing, but I haven’t tried that yet.)

Yes, you can completely demolish the Scarab without ever stepping foot on it.Take whatever you’ve got (Hornet, Tank, etc) and start firing at the “red target” on the back side of the Scarab. It looks like this:

Scarab Back

Shoot it a few times and eventually this piece will detach itself from the main section of the Scarab and reveal the Power Core as shown here:

Scarab Power Core Exposed

Now you can shoot directly at the Power Core with your Tank, Hornet or anything else to destroy the Core - and annihilate the Scarab.

I’d like to see these is in an online multiplayer game. Each team gets a Scarab and the object would be to take out the opposing Scarab.

scarabs as a multiplayer vehicle would be incredible. we’ve been begging for this for a long time >.>

it wouldnt even have to be forgeable (although that would be incredible!) but if they made an elephant like addition too a new map in the future would be brilliant.

I’d be all over the Scarab as a drivable vehicle. wow. That’s so freaking amazing… I think I just peed a little.

If the scarab would be a drivable vehicle that would be a big butt map i dont think they would make that big of a map but you never know and if they did; How would you drive it?

Yes, yes I was working on this post. It took forever too because Bungie.net was not uploading my screen shots. I would have rather been playing with my fellow HaloBuds.
